Interviews by Leigh Russell Photography by Kathy Luu
Concept: Leigh Russell

We had the pleasure of meeting the bookcases of :

Glenn Barkley, Hilary Bell, Vanessa Berry, Jemma Birrell, Paul Capsis, Stephen Collier, Benja Harney, Akira Isogawa, Phillip Johnston, Christine Manfield, Doug Purdie, Gene Sherman, Anne Summers, Alistar Trung, William Yang, Bernard Zuel.

I met Leigh and Kathy when they did a Hello Bookcase interview with me about my books. The result was extremely good journalism, intimate yet informative, easy to read yet getting across interesting details. Kathy’s photographic style of shooting many sequences of photos was perfect for the piece and also for the web. I thought the girls were on to a good thing. It was not as stiff as conventional interviews and with the abundant illustrations it gave a vivid and multi facetted reading of the subject – a great combination of words and image.

Hello Bookcase is a wonderful initiative that offers its readers an insight into the world of some well known people from various walks of life, brought together through a love of books and literature. The in depth interviews led by Leigh and Kathy are informative and engaging and give the reader a real sense of a person through exploring their bookshelf.  An important way to encourage reading and to give depth and meaning to our literary landscape. Christine Manfield

Hello Bookcase is a wonderful project, a great example of arts entrepreneurship which has resulted in a marvellous archive of interesting Sydney people and their books.
